If you want a specific breed there are many rescues in every State for just about any breed of cat or dog. 

Mature dogs/cats make great furry friends/family-members too! (:

 Simply call your local animal shelter or pet-finder listing(s) is a great way to volunteer. You can walk, run, shampoo, read to (yes, dogs love to be read to), take fotos (to help them get adopted) or be there to help with their daily needs... the possibilities are endless.  

 Don't want to adopt/rescue... Why not become a Foster parent to your next furry friend? Simply check your local rescue/volunteer organization or your local shelter to find more information about Fostering in your area.
